Citizens’ Idea to Serve Maternity Mums Local Produce Becomes Reality at Thomson Medical Centre

NEWS  By SAFEF

In 2020, 50 diverse citizens of all ages from different backgrounds came together to come up with exciting ideas to encourage consumers to choose local produce. And 1 of the ideas selected for piloting is the LoveSGMums Meal.

For 3 months starting from 18 March 2022, mothers giving birth at Thomson Medical Centre (TMC) will have the privilege of being served a LoveSGMums Meal, made mostly with the freshest local produce. Three meals designed by celebrity chef Justin Foo will be added to the menu for selection by the mum. Additionally, all other meals that can include local produce will use local produce, allowing all mums to have the chance to consume local produce when resting in bed after giving birth.

At the same time, a brochure with information on the LoveSGMums Meal and where to buy local produce will be served together with the meal. The LoveSGMums team feels that creating an opportunity to communicate with mums at this very significant point in their lives would hopefully guide their considerations to what they buy in the future.

Why choose local produce? As locally harvested produce travel less distance from farm to fork, local produce have unparalleled freshness, taste better and retain more nutrients. In addition, the stringent regulations set in place by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to ensure that the food produced by our local farms meet international food safety standards, provide assurance to mothers who have the best interest of their families at heart.

But the conversation doesn’t end here. Mothers are great at connecting with each other, sharing tips and experiences. So, the LoveSGMums team has created www.lovesgmums.com as a mum-centric platform with content focused on helping to assist mums through motherhood. Aside from being a repository with parenting tips, daily solutions, and deals and promotions, the team also hopes to use the platform to focus on the mental well-being of mums, noting the heightened stress levels due to the pandemic which may affect mums more as they transit into a new phase in life.

Ruan Lim, Project Lead for the LoveSGMums Meal said: “The modern woman is more empowered to make decisions. They work, look after families and decide on the family’s health, nutrition, and purchasing culture. All these responsibilities can bring a lot of pressures that we hope www.lovesgmums.com can alleviate. Great conversations begin with a meal, so we hope to continue these conversations after the LoveSGMums Meal to help more mothers in Singapore however we can.”

In support of LoveSGMums, SAFEF is pleased to present new TMC mothers with a special promotion on fresh and nutritious produce from our local farms: Get $5 off with minimum spend of $25* at e-SG Farmers’ Market on RedMart. *Terms and conditions apply. Click here for more details.

A small step like choosing local produce will provide more delicious and nutritious vegetables, fish and eggs for the whole family. To consume healthier food, simply buy from local farmers who pride themselves on consistently producing high-quality foods that are safe to eat.

SAFEF wishes all new mothers and their babies the very best in health!
