More than 130 farmers and industry associates from 33 organisations came together to celebrate SAFEF’s 5th Anniversary on 22 November 2022 at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium! Special guests included Dr Koh Poh Koon, SAFEF Patron & Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) & Manpower, who was the Guest-of-Honour for the event; Mr Desmond Tan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office & Deputy Secretary General of National Trades Union Congress; SAFEF’s Governing Council, as well as invited guests from MSE and Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
Mr George Huang, SAFEF Chairman opened the event by thanking SMS for his unstinting support as SAFEF’s Patron since its inception in 2017, MOS for his active engagement with the industry during his stint at MSE, and everyone for their spirit of mutual respect and collaboration.
In his Keynote Address, SMS Dr Koh commended SAFEF on being steadfast in its mission to promote, elevate and transform the industry for the future; congratulated SAFEF on its achievements over the past 5 years; and announced the launch of an industry guide for sea-based farms which was co-developed by SFA and relevant government agencies with contributions from SAFEF. SMS also announced that SFA is working with SAFEF and the industry to launch two new Alliances for Action (AfA) – one to look into demand and supply aggregation of local produce, and another to build greater mindshare for local produce through consumer education and branding.

22 representatives from 12 Trade Members and 4 Associate Members attended SAFEF’s Annual Trade Members’ Meeting on 22 November 2022. Members were updated on SAFEF’s activities over the past year which included a series of physical events and online campaigns to promote local produce; website enhancement to promote farm tours; webinars, workshops and exhibitions to provide technology-matching opportunities for Members; and participation in external work groups, committees and industry engagements to contribute SAFEF’s expertise, insights and advice on a wide range of issues.
During the meeting, the Management Committee Members for 2022 to 2024 were elected. They are:

Webinar on “Smart Farming Solutions for Agriculture, Vertical & Aquaculture Farms”

SAFEF and its Associate Member, BRT Systems, held a Webinar on “Smart Farming Solutions for Agriculture, Vertical & Aquaculture Farms” for SAFEF Members on 28 September 2022 to share how BRT Systems’ solutions can potentially help farms to realise benefits such as yield consistency, better staff utilisation, and data gathering and analysis for future optimisations.
The webinar enabled participants to find out how they can effortlessly connect their entire farm with BRT Systems’ LDSBus sensors and IoTPortal systems to monitor a wide range of parameters including pH, CO2, temperature, humidity, light and water levels; and use output controllers to control devices such as sun shades, lighting and pumps. The presentation was accompanied by videos of how BRT Systems’ solutions have been successfully deployed in urban vertical farm Sky Greens and Aquaculture Innovation Centre.
The webinar was attended by 27 participants from 12 companies. A poll conducted at the end of the webinar showed that close to 80% of the respondents rated the usefulness and relevance of the technology and solutions “Good” or “Excellent”, as they saw the potential benefits to their farms.

SAFEF and its Associate Member, JAH Tech, held a Webinar on “Improving Production Rates & Crop Yields Through Sustainable Means” for SAFEF Members on 31 August 2022 to share how JAH Tech’s proprietary technology can complement their farming operations to significantly boost harvests and cultivate a sustainable future for their farms.
The webinar enabled participants to find out more about the effects of the JAH Cultura technology on the growth of vegetables, and how the technology can help solve farming issues such as low crop yields without additional energy sources. The presentation was accompanied by a video of testimonials from JAH Tech’s industry partners, Farmer Nick and GH Hydroponics, on how their farms have benefitted from the technology.
The webinar was attended by 13 participants from 10 companies. A poll conducted at the end of the webinar showed that more than 80% of the respondents rated the usefulness and relevance of the technology and solutions “Good”, as they saw the potential benefits to their farms.
